All,

The AAUP chapter should really be involved in this:

*Provost seeks volunteers for strategic plan implementation*
Dr. David Danahar, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, is
seeking volunteers to discuss implementation of the governance section of
the University's strategic plan. That section calls for the establishment
of elected, representative governing bodies for classified and unclassified
staff. These volunteers, along with the Faculty Senate, will form a
University-wide senate.

Anyone interested in participating should contact Dr. Jordan Kellman,
Strategic Plan Implementation Committee chair, at
kellman at louisiana.edu by Friday,
Dec. 1.

FYI the word "elected" means Full professors are no longer automatically
Senators, which I find problematic for reasons I can explain; also, mixing
staff and faculty means Senate can't make academic decisions in the same
way, from what I can gather. There is a lot of bibliography on these issues
and there was a great deal of discussion both in Senate four or five years
ago; this got put into the Strategic plan but I am not sure whether it was
done so in a democratic way or for democratic reasons.
